Cerghid (Romania) 5 September 2024 – The Supermoto World Championship never stops and riders will have to face two more races and the S1oN in the final part of the season. The paddock of the World Championship will do a stop-over in Romania, in Cerghid, at the Transylvania Motor Ring track which will welcome the paddock for the first time. The circuit features a very fast tarmac and a very technical off-road section.
After the fifth round, Marc Reiner Schmidt (L30 Racing TM Moto) is the current standings leader. The rider ruled the GP of Germany and thanks to that victory he could strengthen the gap which divides him from his main rival, Thomas Chareyre (SGR Grau Racing). The two have a 36-point gap dividing them and two more races to go. Defending Champion, German Marc Reiner Schmidt, faced ups and downs at the beginning of the Championship but recovered greatly, and his flawless performance secured him the victory of the GP of Germany in front of his home crowd.
The third strongest rider of the Championship is Elia Sammartin (Gazza Racing). The Italian rider proved his speed in the qualifying and took a double pole position in Poland and Germany but could not reach the result he deserved in the races – however Sammartin proved he can fight against the top two riders.
In Germany Julen Avila Cortes (KTM Mtr Racing) suffered a heavy crash and injured his shoulder. Before the last race the young Spanish rider was ruling the Rookie class and won the GP of Poland but lost the leadership in the category reserved to the youngest riders so now the current leader is French Tim Slazai (TM Moto).
In the Junior, European Championship Andrea Benvenuti (KTM Mtr Racing) is the undisputed king of the class. The young Italian rider is trying to complete a perfect racing season. So far, he won all the rounds, and only at the Round of Germany had to push a little bit more than usual but ended up with two triumphs, chased by Yevsevii Kovalyov (Husqvarna), whose disadvantage in the standings increased because of a bad performance at the city circuit of Sankt Wendel. Swiss Nathan Terraneo (KTM) took advantage of the situation and thanks to a solid performance moved closer to his rival and now only has a 2-point gap.

Thursday, a press conference held in the Administrative Palace (build 1905 -1907) marked the comeback of Supermoto in Romania after a 10-year break. 2024 Grand Prix of Romania is held in the region of Transylvania, Mures county, the race track being near the city of Targu Mures.
Mr. Peter Ferenc – county president – underlined the tradition Targu Mures has when it comes to motorcycle racing, being held here roadracing in the ’70, and the importance World Supermoto Championship has too boost the awareness around the county and the race track.
Mr. Thomas Razvan Moldovan from the National Sport Agency mentioned the build of the motocross section on the Transylvania Motor to be under the request of a World Championships event, and Miss Nicoleta Olariu from the Romanian Motorcycling Federation – explained why Supermoto is a spectacular sport.”
